Lollywood Movies, Films , Actors and Stars From Pakistan

Film industry in Pakistan which is so –called Lollywood has not so far successful compare to bollywood and Hollywood film industry due to its own audience disdain it because of lollywood movies poor storyline and other technical aspects.

What is Lollywood?

Lollywood is a Pakistani movie industry which is formerly known as “Urdu Cinema” for mostly its language or the language being used is largely “Urdu”. Pakistani movie industry was so-called lollywood because of two columnists, first by a gossip columnist name Saleem Nasir in the now defunct magazine “Glamour”. Saleem Nasir coined this term to equate or emulate it to Bollywood.

The second columnist who used this term to describe Pakistani film is Urooj Samdani. Urooj Samdani is a film journalist who used this term in his article about film industry at Pakistan at Women’s Own Magazine.

The term lollywood was said to be a combination of Lahore and Hollywood.

The Popularity and Nearly Lost of Lollywood Then

Lollywood movies was on the rise from 1960s to 1997 but now there is no more news about it compare to Bollywood which somewhat have eclipse it. Lollywood film industry has almost gone bankrupt due to its repetitive or hackneyed escapist movie theme and because of its lollywood stars opted to stay in Bombay India when a partitioned of Pakistan was made during 1947. Consequently, perhaps those former lollywood stars has now become a bollywood stars. Moreover, its poor cinematography then or technical aspect contributes to it’s nearly downfall. However, there are rumors of reinvention of lollywood film industry. Let us hope so.

It was said that lollywood films or lollywood movies was only popular during its popularity time because of its sensual invoking to the viewers by a two couples serenading to each other and doing sexual permissive act to one another which is in contrary to the religious culture of Pakistan pertaining couples when they are in public. And from this sensual theme, it becomes famous to those Pakistan who felt horny and use the cinema as a sexual outlet.

During its younger times, almost 200 films or movies were done per year but now we don’t know.

Lollywood Film Now

Lollywood film has now improved with better cinematography, however, some Pakistanis says it has still hackneyed theme or plot. Same also with lollywood actors and lollywood actresses with new faces, however there are some which are hot like lollywood actor Shan or Shaan. But some lollywood actresses were like more transgender in their appearance than a hot natural woman, except for Meera.

There is still song and dance in the lollywood movie; however, the lollywood songs and lollywood dance in the movie still a reminiscent of the old lollywood movies.

There is a decrease in quantity but an increase in quality of lollywood films. A decrease in quantity because most Pakistanis disdain their own movies or does not patronized it. It is really Too bad for lollywood film industry if its own audience were reluctant to watch their own film.

However, recently a lollywood movie in 2002 break a record and that movie is 'Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa'. Lollywood film industry has somewhat breathe again and hope that this fresh success will continue and led Lollywood movie again in the mainstream.
